The Mater Dolorosa (Our Lady of Sorrows) of Samsun is a catholic church situated in the city of Samsun in northern Turkey. The construction of the original church is believed to have started in 1846 by Capuchin Monks. This original church measured 8x12m. In 1876 permission was granted to build the church that stands today. In 1885 a cemetery and a cloister were built next to the church. Today, Turkey is 98% Muslim however many churches from its multicultural and multi ethnic past still stand. The church is open to visitors.
In 2006, Roman Catholic French priest Pierre Brunnissen 74, of the Mater Dolorosa church of Samsun was stabbed by a Turk.
