giresun saint nicholasThe belltower of the church of Saint Nicholas (Kerasunde - Clocher de l'Eglise St. Nicolas), Giresun. The Metropolitan church of Saint Nicholas, was the largest Greek church in Giresun and was located in Kókkari (G: Κόκκαρη), a large seaside district in the eastern part of the city. The church had a separate belltower at the entrance which was about 10 metres tall and its Russian-origin bell weighed over 1,000 okas (1,280 kg). The sound of the bell was so loud that it could be heard throughout the whole city which is why it was used to summon all the children to attend school.
